Utkal University to construct big examination hall

BHUBANESWAR: The Utkal University will construct a big examination hall-cum-multipurpose building in the campus by spending Rs 4.52 crore. University vice-chancellor Sabita Acharya laid foundation stone of this building here on Monday.

The hall funded by World Bank will be built on 26,000-sqft area. This double storey building can accommodate more than 300 students at a time during any examination. The Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation Limited will execute the project.

“The building will be an asset to the university. A dedicated examination hall will ensure smooth conduct of a number of examinations being held in the university. A beautiful flower garden in front of the hall is also being planned,” said university VC Acharya.

She said the project will be completed by June 2022. “If we conduct examination of large number of students in a single hall, it will be easy to manage and monitor by using less manpower and time. Now we are engaging one or two person in a room accommodating hardly a few examinees at a time,” she added.

University registrar Avaya Kumar Nayak said this examination hall will immensely help the university as it routinely hosts various examinations. Besides the examinations, this exclusive building can also be used for other functions/activities when there are no examinations, he added.

“University normally holds major functions or events by making temporary arrangements for many functions and ceremonies. After commissioning of this building, we can hold functions inside the big hall and save unnecessary expenditure on making temporary arrangements several functions and ceremonies,” said Nayak.

The ceremony was held in the presence of PG council chairman Basant Kumar Mallik along with other university officials.
