They demanded that the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) issues guidelines directing colleges to collect only 50% of the total tuition fee for the academic year 2020-21.
“Parents are not in a position to clear the entire fee in three to four months. Moreover, when a student had not used any facilities in the campus and is attending physical classes only for three months, why should he/she pay the entire fee,” questioned P Srihari, general secretary, Hyderabad, ABVP adding that about 100 of them participated in the protest and 40 were picked up by the police.
He said that colleges have no right to demand full fees as they are hardly paying 10% of their staff to run classes and are saving on other bills.
The ABVP members also alleged that many colleges are also collecting full hostel fees even when students have spent a major part of the academic year at their homes. They demanded that the inter board initiates action against erring junior colleges and lodge a criminal case against them. They also said that the board should inspect colleges and shutdown those running without required permissions.
